MyBirthClass.com Review and Giveaway

>> Thursday, January 20, 2011

If you're a first-time pregnant mommy, (heck, even if you're an eighth-time pregnant mommy), labor and delivery can be a scary and intimidating thing! If you're like me, you have tons of questions, and usually don't know what to expect or what options you have. This week I was given the opportunity to view and submit a review on a DVD called Labor and Delivery by MyBirthClass. This DVD helps expectant mothers learn techniques to give birth as naturally or medically supported as they desire. Even if you're not a first-time mom, this DVD outlines different options that you may not have known were available to you with your first pregnancy.

The DVD is professionally authored by Becky Rasmussen, a Certified Child Birth Educator (CBE) and mother of seven. She has coached more than a thousand expectant parents on effective birthing and fitness. Having personally birthed babies both medicated and unmedicated, she offers a fresh and objective class that is recommended by both doctors and midwives alike.

My review was as followed:

"I am a first time parent and look forward to delivering our twins in a few months. I was excited to view this DVD as I don't know what to totally expect when laboring and delivering a child. This video is a combination of modest child birth videos, pictures, couples experiences, and a continual narration by a doula/childbirth educator. Whether or not you have made your decision to have a natural or medicated birth, this video may or may not persuade you to change your method but it was very educational on both birthing options. I did feel that if you were more apt to have a natural child birth, this video would give you more confidence to do so as it covered almost an hour on this subject alone. Overall the purposes of labor, the birthing options and techniques, and the expectations before and after labor are discussed. I did expect to feel a little more engaged in the DVD as it is 97 minutes, but I did come out more educated, confident and comfortable bringing two children into the world. This DVD would be great for first time parents!"

MyBirthClass is giving away their "Birth Class In A Box, Labor 101" 3 disc set to one lucky reader!

It includes:

1. Labor & Delivery : Experts on Birth DVD (the DVD we were lucky to review)

2. All About Labor CD

3. Relaxation and Pain Management CD
FYI: This is something I thought would be espcially helpful and interesting... There is also information included that helps couples evaluate where they fall on their pain preferences. Most couples think that their options are pain medication, or no pain medication. They outline that there are many options, such as waiting for medication until 5cm, etc.

My first pregnancy was All Natural and I would do it again. I just set out to have a natural birth from the start, but I also read "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way", I think that is the title, and that helped to!

I think I will try to do it naturally but if it's too hard then get the epidural.

i guess my relaxation methods would be to stay at home and comfortable as long as possible. a hot shower. i like to watch the pregnant/birth episodes on Friends. having my husband put pressure on my lower back.

i've done epidurals with both. I felt all the pressure with my first...with my second i had the epi when i was in transition and it only effected half my body. with this one i'm really going to try and to natural...my mom will be in the room for the first time and i think that will really help, i like to look tough in front of people. :)

I'm still deciding between Epidural and Natural. I'll probably end up with Epidural because I'm nervous about the whole new experience and I kind of want to see how I do first. britbakow@gmail.com

i did an epidural with my first child because i was induced and i was worried with the fast moving labor that i wouldnt have been able to enjoy it since it was a rush against the time to get him out. however with this pregnancy i was to do natural and i am going to the hypnobirthing technique! so i am excited and hope all works out!!

I had a natural delivery with my first and I found a focal point in the room to focus on and tried not to let my eyes wander and get distracted.... worked great!

Melissa P February 2, 2011 at 12:18 PM

All natural- I am due in 10 days and hope to have another all natural birth. It was an amazing experience!

The relaxation methods that I think work the best are to focus on one thing, and really work hard at controlling your breathing.

My first labor I had an epidural, mainly because I was scared of how much pain I was going to be in. My second labor I got a tiny concentrated dose in an epidural just to take the edge off in my last half hour of labor. (Had I known I was that close to delivering, I would have just sucked it up and done it all naturally.) I'd like to win this, because my next labor I really hope to do naturally.
